CNCF Ambassador & Kubestronaut. Field CTO at ControlPlane. 15+ years designing and deploying cloud native platforms, helping teams work out when Kubernetes is the answer, and when it isn’t.
“Security isn’t a layer you add to DevOps. It’s the foundation you build on.”Rob Kenefeck
Rob is a Field CTO with 15+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying cloud native platforms. He helps clients adopt cloud native principles to make their systems more agile and resilient, with deep expertise in cloud architecture, DevOps, containerisation, Kubernetes, and service mesh. His focus is building cloud strategies that match what the business actually needs.
His current focus is where service mesh design meets security. Rob argues for expanding security left rather than just shifting it, so security becomes a permanent part of DevOps rather than a bolt-on. He regularly teaches peers on cloud native topics, which he considers a good excuse to keep learning himself.
Beyond consulting, Rob is an active community builder. He is a CNCF Ambassador and, since May 2026, part of the inaugural OpenSSF Ambassador cohort. He organises events, mentors practitioners, and speaks at conferences internationally. He is President of GOTO Toastmasters, Area Director for Toastmasters District 73, and an organiser of both Cloud Native Melbourne and Cloud Native Sydney, the two communities that together run the CloudCon SYD conference. He is also co-organising KCD Melbourne, officially announced by CNCF for early August 2026. Away from tech, he’s an avid skier and a committed F1 fan.
A Kubestronaut, holding all five CNCF Kubernetes certifications, and a Google Cloud certified professional. Every credential below is verifiable on Credly.
